On 21 October the FIAP Exhibition Centre Dublin was very proud to host an evening with the Dutch photographer, Marcel van Balken MFIAP MPSA EFIAP/d3
This evening also saw the opening of an exhibition by Marcel in our centre titled “Lost Memories”. We were very pleased to also have the FIAP Treasurer, Herbert Gmeiner and the FIAP Director of Biennials, Luis Franke in attendance along with other guests and members of the club.
Marcel van Balken's portfolio “Lost Memories” reflects his artistic vision and passion for surrealism and magical realism. Through carefully composed photographic compositions, he skilfully blends reality with imagination, bringing forgotten worlds back to life. Each of these abandoned locations serves as a photographic set, where the “lost memories” of former residents - symbolised by an animal - are recreated and captured in his photographs. The combination of the real history of the location and its absent residents creates a new, almost poetic image of symbolic memories from times gone by.
With each photograph, Marcel reveals a piece of the past and creates a magical atmosphere of symbolic memories. His work transcends the boundaries of time and place, evokes emotions and encourages the viewer to explore the connection between the present and the past. 'Lost Memories' invites us to reimagine the forgotten and appreciate the beauty that can be found in the decay of time and place.
