Contemplating Time, Ann Francis, Ireland

**The Preacher Who Engraves Time**

Photography, as an international artistic language that transcends words and nations, inherently carries a missionary dimension with historical depth. Behind it lies universal human values and cultural missions. Thus, photographers seem naturally endowed with an open vision, diverse aesthetic tendencies, and the latent role of preachers. The most outstanding among them not only perceive the mysteries and allure of photography as artists, but also break through the barriers of time and space between different regions and civilizations. Through photography, they promote cultural exchange, understanding, and empathy on a global scale, thereby realizing a broad sense of preaching.

God said: *Let there be light.* Photography is the art of light; light is the language of photographers, and for Mr. Bussi, it is his carving knife. His works are always imbued—sometimes subtly, sometimes overtly—with the sacredness of the Creator and the dignity of ordinary people. His mastery of light and shadow is both sharp and tender. The poor yet optimistic, the ordinary yet great, are endowed with sculptural strength and resilience, while bathed in sacred and gentle light. Inadvertently, they remind us of the ever-present sincerity and emotion in this world, evoking reverence and intimacy alike.

With exceptional leadership and artistic vision, Mr. Bussi has elevated the global influence of FIAP to unprecedented heights. Using photography as a universal language, he has brought together people from different countries and regions, diverse faiths, histories, and cultural contexts—united by their love of photography and of life. They record existence, express themselves, and foster mutual understanding. In this process, photography transcends language and medium itself, becoming part of the universal symbols and values of humanity, thereby embodying a broad spirit of preaching.

As an important member of FIAP, China has its own characteristics in historical traditions and photographic concepts. Its understanding of light is subjective, introspective, and metaphorical, yet its concern for reality, exploration of humanity, and pursuit of artistic expression are universal. This presents a timely challenge for enriching and perfecting the global photographic ecosystem. Over the past decade, Mr. Bussi, with admirable humility, insight, and perseverance, has worked hand in hand with colleagues in China’s photographic community. Together, they have successfully integrated Chinese photography and culture into the world photographic family at higher, broader, and more diverse levels.     The “Way of Photography” itself is a process of multiplicity, plurality, and constant reconstruction. It is also the very meaning of contemporary photography’s self-affirmation and realization of value.
