El viernes 12 de junio se llevó a cabo la charla del fotógrafo Chileno Orlando Barría, fotoperiodista y documentalista, corresponsal de la agencia EFE en República Dominicana.
Orlando Barría, es un fotoperiodista nacido en la Patagonia chilena.
Estudió fotografía profesional en Santiago de Chile y trabajó como reportero gráfico en los periódicos La Época y El Mercurio. Desde el año 2002 trabaja como corresponsal de la Agencia EFE en República Dominicana.
Barría ha realizado diversas coberturas tales como la Guerra en Ucrania, los Juegos Olímpicos de Río de Janeiro y los Juegos Panamericanos de Lima, Río, Toronto y Santo Domingo. Las visitas papales en Cuba y Colombia, huracanes en el Caribe, crisis humanitarias, el funeral de Fidel Castro, los terremotos en Haití del 2010 y 2021. También el conflicto armado del 2004 en Haití, el estallido social en Chile, cumbres presidenciales, visita del presidente Obama a Cuba, magnicidio en Haití, huracán Melissa en Jamaica, entre otros eventos.
En el ámbito audiovisual, Barría es codirector del documental El fotógrafo de La 40 y actualmente trabaja en su segunda película documental, “Carne de Canón”.
Ha realizado varias exposiciones y ha recibido diversos premios, entre los que destacan los primeros lugares en el POY Latam (EE.UU.), Premio Luis Valtueña (España), Px3 Paris Photo Prize (Francia), Salón de Fotoprensa (Chile), Bienal de Artes Visuales de Santo Domingo, Premio de la Asociación de Medios de Información, AMI (España).
En 2022 fue nominado en el Premio Gabriel García Márquez.

On Friday, June 12, a lecture was held by Chilean photographer Orlando Barría, photojournalist and documentary filmmaker, and correspondent for the EFE News Agency in the Dominican Republic.

Barría has covered a wide range of events, including the war in Ukraine, the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, and the Pan American Games in Lima, Rio, Toronto, and Santo Domingo. He has also reported on papal visits to Cuba and Colombia, hurricanes in the Caribbean, humanitarian crises, the funeral of Fidel Castro, the 2010 and 2021 earthquakes in Haiti, the 2004 armed conflict in Haiti, the social unrest in Chile, presidential summits, President Obama's visit to Cuba, the assassination of the Haitian president, Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, among many other events.
In the audiovisual field, Barría is co-director of the documentary The Photographer of La 40 and is currently working on his second documentary film, Cannon Fodder (Carne de Cañón).
He has held numerous exhibitions and received several awards, including first prizes at POY Latam (USA), the Luis Valtueña Award (Spain), the PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris (France), the Photojournalism Salon (Chile), the Santo Domingo Visual Arts Biennial, and the AMI Information Media Association Award (Spain).
In 2022, he was nominated for the Gabriel García Márquez Award.
