Heritage and Innovation—2025 Handcrafted Photographic Art Exhibition

May-June, 2025

In an era when digital photography and output technologies have become universally accessible, handcrafted photographic processes have increasingly revealed their distinctive artistic language and creative potential. On May 18, the exhibition “Heritage and Innovation—2025 Handcrafted Photographic Art Exhibition” will open. The exhibition aims to preserve and advance classical photographic techniques, revisiting historical traditions through a rich diversity of processes while encouraging technological innovation rooted in the present. Since the nationwide open call launched on April 1, the exhibition has received 2,368 submissions from professional art institutions, universities, photographic artists, collectors, and photography enthusiasts both in China and abroad. After a rigorous selection process, the organizers selected 1,512 works by 456 artists from China, France, the United States, Japan, and South Korea. Featuring 35 categories of traditional and innovative photographic processes, the exhibition encompasses a wide range of subjects—from history and culture to natural landscapes—demonstrating the vibrant evolution, continuity, and creative breakthroughs of photographic craftsmanship.
